Partner Spotlight - Purina

PurinaPurina's work with canine nutrition extends far beyond the dish bowl, however. The venerable company has a long history of helping its customers maintain the health and over well being of their animals. That's particularly true for the hardworking sporting breeds coveted by hunters.

Bob West, Purina's director of breeder marketing for its sporting dog programs, is as passionate about hunting dogs as anyone you'll ever meet. A professional trainer for 40 years, West has some practical advice for dog owners who plan on training their dogs this summer in preparation for the hunting season.

During the conditioning process, proper nutrition, West says, is hugely important. He recommends feeding "normal healthy dogs" once a day, in the afternoon or evening. And, he cautions, don't overfeed your canine. "A dog that's kept at its proper weight works better and lives longer on average and has less orthopedic problems," West says. "That's our goal as a company--giving our customers the information they need to keep their dogs healthy and working well." Read More
