Delta's US Mentored Hunt Program Takes Off

Bismarck, N.D.--The seeds of John Denker's love of waterfowling were sown when he was a young boy working as his father's field apprentice in and around his hometown of Quincy, Illinois.

"I was affectionately called the bag boy, the kid who picked up the birds, typically a mixed bag of ducks and geese, and hauled them back to the vehicles after the hunt," said Denker, 28. "I loved to be outside and wouldn't sleep the night before just knowing we were going. With my Dad, I got to be one of the guys, and those early days spurred my love of waterfowling that has only grown as I've gotten older."

Support Delta Duck Production

DDPWhile we enter our hunting seasons, remember the birds we see in the fall are a direct result of what happens on the breeding grounds each spring. It is not too late to support predator management, Hen Houses or Adopt a Pothole through a contribution to the Delta Duck Production program.

DDP allows you to invest your contribution to the program(s) you like most.

Partner Spotlight - Federal Premium Ammunition

Federal Premium AmmunitionMinnesota-born Federal Premium Ammunition, one of Delta Waterfowl's conservation partners, has been manufacturing shotgun shells since 1922.

Federal hasn't forgotten about giving back, either. Ryan Bronson, the company's conservation specialist, said Federal has always nurtured a professional culture that stresses conservation. The goal: To develop a conservation ethic that ensured future hunting opportunities.

Federal's partnership with Delta Waterfowl on its Hen House and mentored hunting programs is also helping secure the future of waterfowl and waterfowl hunting. "The hen house project is a great example of the science-based programs that Delta Waterfowl works on to increase waterfowl populations," said Bronson.

Bronson says "Mentoring programs and youth hunts are the next critical step in helping attract the next generation of hunters, and Delta's leadership in Canada and the United States gives us hope that declining duck hunter trends can be turned around. The future of our wild places depends on it."
