A Field Report From Rob Olson and Jim Fisher - June 11, 2008 Minnedosa Hen Houses are Safe Havens from Skunks and Raccoons Nesting season is in full swing on the breeding grounds so Delta staff Rob Olson and Jim Fisher took an opportunity recently to personally inspect some of Delta's Hen Houses near Minnedosa, Manitoba.Delta supporters know that Hen Houses are nesting structures that are used primarily by mallards. Mallards nesting in Hen Houses in the Minnedosa region usually hatch out a brood whereas hens nesting on the ground in recent years have had less than a 5% chance of successfully hatching their eggs. Join Jim and Rob to see a clutch of mallard eggs right in the middle of the process of hatching! |
