Start a Chapter
How To Get A Chapter Started!
Thank you for being passionate enough about the future of waterfowl and waterfowl hunting. This information will help you through the first steps of forming a Delta Waterfowl committee. Please contact Delta or your Regional Director for help or with questions at any time.
First, what is a Delta Waterfowl chapter?
A local chapter of Delta Waterfowl is a community based group of passionate waterfowlers dedicated to preserving waterfowling and developing young waterfowlers.
What does a DW chapter do?
Delta Waterfowl Chapters can do many things, but the two basic activities are: 1) Hold atleast one fundraising event each year and 2) With the guidance from your Regional Director, decide how to spend your Waterfowl Heritage Funds to support waterfowl populations and advance the mission of Delta Waterfowl.
How do I start a Delta chapter?
Hold an informational meeting and get as many people to attend as possible. Coordinate the date of the meeting with your Regional Director or the Delta office; however, due to the small size of the Delta staff, sometimes it will not be possible for Delta personnel to attend. With the Chapter and Event Handbook and additional materials from the Delta office, you should be able to find the answers to most of your questions and be able to decide how to proceed.
What do we do at the meeting?
Review and discuss the printed Delta information. Record important questions and nominate someone to contact Delta for answers. Obtain a firm commitment to serve on the committee from a minimum of 4-9 people, 10-15 is better but is not required to start. As you proceed toward your first event you should be able to recruit additional volunteers. Discuss who will serve as chapter officers.
Done that, what is next?
As soon as possible, set a date and location for a fundraising event.
Get ready to have some fun!
