If waterfowl managers hope to improve waterfowl production from the Prairie Pothole Region, they must work closely and cooperatively with private landowners. Consequently, Delta has intensified its focus on natural resource policies that ultimately shape the prairie landscape upon which waterfowl and other wildlife depend. In the U.S., Delta played an important role in the recent reauthorization of the Conservation Reserve Program (1996 Farm Bill) and is once again promoting the reauthorization of the 2002 Farm Bill. In Canada, Delta has helped draft legislation allowing Conservation Easements. Both of these programs provide financial incentives to prairie landowners who voluntarily retain or restore wildlife habitat.
