Q: I live in Texas and plan on going hunting on the coast. What effect do tides have on duck and a goose movement throughout the day? -Dave Greaney

A: The tides play a significant role in the movements and distribution of ducks in coastal areas. The tides are continually varying the accessibility of feeding and loafing areas and as such ducks will continually be exploiting those areas where feeding areas are now available with tidal changes. My advice is to spend a great deal of time scouting under a wide range of tidal conditions to pin point when ducks are using certain areas. Hunting the tides can mean great success and even means that sometimes you don’t have to roll out of bed in the middle of the night!

Best wishes and good hunting!
