Wildlife Habitat Canada Announces Latest Canadian Federal Duck Stamp

2010 Canadian Habitat Conservation Stamp
Wildlife Habitat Canada just announced the 26th edition of the ‘Canadian Duck Stamp’ that is required to hunt ducks and geese. The winning image depicts a pair of green-winged teal at the edge of a marsh and was painted by Quebec artist Pierre Girard. According to the Canadian Wildlife Service, some 170,000 hunting permits and stamps were sold to hunters last year. These hunter-based funds are used by Wildlife Habitat Canada to support waterfowl conservation efforts across the country.
Through these duck stamp funds, Wildlife Habitat Canada supports several important projects of Delta Waterfowl. We’ve established a three-way partnership between WHC, Delta and the Alberta Conservation Association to deliver 2 Hen House “super site” projects in the province of Alberta. Each of these super site projects see the construction, installation and ongoing maintenance of 100 Hen Houses on private lands. Hen Houses are the most cost efficient management tool available to enhance mallard populations.

WHC is also supporting an ALUS demonstration effort in the County of Vermilion River. This support is allowing us to deliver a number of demonstration farms that provide incentives to farmers and ranchers to environmentally enhance their land. These environmental improvements include wetland, riparian and upland improvements through this unique community-led, farmer-delivered approach.
WHC has also recognized the importance of the perpetual wetland easement work being conducted by the Manitoba Habitat Heritage Corporation, in partnership with Delta Waterfowl. WHC has funded this effort that protects vulnerable wetlands on private farmland in the duck-rich region that is southwestern Manitoba. Delta is proud to be working on this effort through our Adopt A Pothole program.
Thanks to duck stamp programs in both Canada and the United States we are leaving an amazing conservation legacy on behalf of duck hunters.
