Scrap the Long-Gun Registry!
On September 22nd, Members of Parliament will vote on the future of Canada’s long-gun registry. It’s time to let your MP know what you think of this controversial, wasteful and ineffective legislation.
Since 1995, the long-gun registry has cost taxpayers more than $1.5 billon, with annual operating costs of more than $20 million. Canada’s Auditor General has condemned the registry for massive cost overruns; financial inaccuracies; system failures; and delays in implementation.
There is no credible evidence that the registry has helped to stop gun crime, solve gun crimes or save lives. It unfairly targets law-abiding hunters, farmers, and recreational sport shooters as a threat to public safety.
The fate of the registry now lies with 20 rural-based MP’s who previously voted to abolish it. They are facing intense pressure to change their minds.
