Harrison Gift Provides Legacy for Ducks

Legacy for DucksDelta Waterfowl has received a substantial planned gift from the estate of Agnes and Carter Harrison of Modesto, Calif.

Carter Harrison, a passionate duck hunter who was keenly interested in conservation, attended the North American Duck Symposium and served as a valuable ambassador for ducks in the grasslands of California.

John Devney, senior director of U.S. policy for Delta Waterfowl, fondly recalls hunting with Carter Harrison at his duck club in 2001.

"Carter had such a keen interest in the birds," Devney said. "He talked about the abundance of pintails in the 1940s — how he had seen pintails go from blackening the skies to a point where the bag limit in California was reduced to one a day."

The Harrison's gift of nearly $200,000 to Delta's Legacy Fund will advance waterfowl research and duck-production programs in North America.

"This gift to Delta Waterfowl will ensure Carter and Agnes Harrison's passion for ducks is served forever," Devney said.
