Delta Board Member One of Duck Stamp Judges - SD Artist Wins Contest
Posted on 10/30/2004
Hey, Marge. The Hautman boys didn’t win the duck stamp contest this year. Uffda. Fans of the movie Fargo—along with most duck hunters—know that Minnesota brothers Jim, Joe and Robert have captured seven federal duck stamp competitions. Not this year.
Mark Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD walked off with top honors in this year’s competition with an acrylic panting of two male hooded mergansers. Second place went to three-time winner Jim Hautman for a pair of wood ducks and third place went to Don Moore for a painting of a drake hooded merganser.
Anderson has missed entering the contest only once since 1985. He previously won 15 state conservation stamp art contests.
Dr. Thomas Hutchens, former chairman of the board of directors for Delta Waterfowl, was one of the judges for this year’s competition, which was held in early October. “Anderson’s hooded mergansers were outstanding,” said Hutch. “The light was just incredible. There were 223 entries—including 40 or 50 women artists. It was an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
Anderson’s painting will adorn the 2005-2006 federal duck stamp, which goes on sale July 1, 2005.
