Louisiana Teens Win National Shooting Sports Championship

Delta Waterfowl members from the Bayou State made history in June during the National 4H Shooting Sports Invitational held in Grand Island, Neb. Four teenagers — Austin Hebert, 18, Ian Duplantis, 17, Colton Chandler, 16, and Dylan Whitstine, 15 — brought home the Shotgun Team Overall National Championship for the first time in Louisiana history.
It was no easy task. Not only did Louisiana need to outshoot teams from 33 other states, but also had to topple Texas, which had dominated the event since 2009.
Whitstine individually took second overall and was named Team MVP. Duplantis took first in clays with a 96, which was the highest individual score in the event since 2009, and placed sixth overall. Chandler and Hebert placed 12th and 13th overall, respectively.
In their win, Team Louisiana’s 858 was highest overall team score in more than five years, and possibly the highest in the history of the event.
