NEWTOWN, Conn., and BISMARCK, N.D. – The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF®) announced today that the Delta Waterfowl Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting duck hunting and waterfowl conservation throughout North America, will join forces with Project ChildSafe to emphasize the importance of responsible firearm storage to its members and their families.
“Securely storing firearms when not in use goes hand in hand with enjoying hunting and target shooting,” said Steve Sanetti, NSSF President and CEO. “With Delta Waterfowl’s help, and the involvement of its thousands of members, we’ll continue to make sure this important safety message is heard loud and clear in communities across the country.”
As part of its support, Delta Waterfowl will help promote Project ChildSafe’s “Own It? Respect It. Secure It.” (ORS) initiative. Delta Waterfowl will feature ORS messaging in regular communications, events and online promotion. Project ChildSafe will continue to provide helpful educational resources on firearm safety for Delta Waterfowl members, including safety fact sheets, infographics and their latest safety resource, the “How to Talk to Your Kids About Gun Safety” video.
“Firearm safety is a key component in Delta Waterfowl’s First Hunt program, the largest waterfowl hunter recruitment program in North America,” said Jason Tharpe, chief operating officer of Delta Waterfowl. “Project ChildSafe’s message to ‘Own It. Respect It. Secure It,’ aligns with our mission and dedication to teach the next generation of waterfowl hunters.”
Since 1999, Project ChildSafe has been the leading nationwide program providing firearm safety education to gun owners and their families. Through partnerships with more than 15,000 local law enforcement agencies and more than 1,000 organizational supporters throughout the United States, Project ChildSafe has helped distribute more than 36 million free firearm safety kits to communities in all 50 states and the five U.S. territories.
