Recent Photos: Mandeville LA Youth Day
The Northshore Chapter of Mandeville, Louisiana held its Delta Youth Day on March 20th. The N/S Chapter mentored over a dozen future duck hunters at their Fall Banquet and constructed 14 new wood duck nesting boxes as well as gave calling lessons and held a youth only live auction. The chapter volunteers then worked with the USFWS to allow the youngsters to place the new boxes in strategic locations in the Big Branch NWR. Josh Buchholz, the N/S Chapter’s Youth Mentor and Activities Director, says the weekend was a complete success. “It is wonderful to see young kids working together with biologists, game wardens, parents and grandparents. Everyone involved gets to see that Delta volunteers walk the walk when it comes to ensuring the future of waterfowl hunting.”
The kids are also scheduled to accompany biologist Neil Lalonde back out this summer to collect field data on box utilization and hatch success. Lalonde says, “you never know, you may have the next award winning biologist or conservationist in this group. This is how it all starts.”
We know one thing, we definitely have some dedicated new duck hunters in this group! - Joe Gauthier
