Hutchens Named New Chairman of Delta Waterfowl

Bismarck, North Dakota - Dr. Thomas P. Hutchens of Bismarck, North Dakota was elected Chairman of the Board of The Delta Waterfowl Foundation at the Foundation’s annual meeting held May 4.

Dr. Hutchens, a lifelong waterfowler and dedicated conservationist, reflected upon his new role at Delta. “Having been extremely active in waterfowling and waterfowl conservation for my entire life, the opportunity to serve as Chairman of the Board for Delta Waterfowl is truly a wonderful opportunity. Delta is uniquely poised to deliver its research and programs in a fashion that will help in part to ensure the future of waterfowl and waterfowling.”

Born in Sumter, South Carolina, Hutchens was first introduced to duck hunting in high school, venturing into the states lowlands to pursue duck’s made an indelible mark on his life. “Those early days had a huge impact on my life; since those boyhood adventures, I have been obsessed with ducks and duck hunting, it isn’t just a hobby or past-time, and it’s a huge part of my life.”

Hutchens is a nationally renowned Doctor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, practicing in Bismarck, ND with Mid Dakota Clinic. Dr. Hutchens has developed cutting edge procedural techniques and conducted extensive research leading to significant breakthroughs in his field in addition to his day to day practice.

In addition to his support of Delta Waterfowl, Hutchens is active with a number of other conservation organizations including a long term as a member of the Board of Directors for Ducks Unlimited and a long-time supporter of Pheasants Forever, National Wild Turkey Federation, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Mule Deer Foundation and Safari Club International. In addition to his support of various conservation organizations, Hutchens is also actively engaged in on the ground conservation activities revolving around his 5,000 acre property located in the heart of North Dakota’s duck factory.

“The future of waterfowl and waterfowl hunting will hinge upon the efforts of sportsmen and organizations pulling together to ensure abundant flights of ducks and memorable dawns in our favorite duck blinds. Having the opportunity to leading the Delta Waterfowl Foundation at this crucial point in time and will prove to be a great challenge, but I am sure it will be an extremely gratifying task.”
