Submit letter of interest with resume and names of 2-3 references to Ferguson or Dana at Environment Canada, 115 Perimeter Road, Saskatoon, SK S7N 0X4 SEASONAL FIELD ASSISTANT -- Waterfowl Nest Searching We are seeking one field assistant to work with a Master’s student studying duck nesting success on the prairies of West-Central Minnesota. Study objective is to examine the nest success of upland nesting ducks (primarily Mallards, Blue-winged Teal) in relation to proximity of encroaching woody vegetation. Field work will take place from mid-May through mid-July. DUTIES: Field assistant will help conduct waterfowl nest searches in tall-grass prairie habitat. Nest searching consists of driving 4WD vehicles or ATVs while towing a chain-drag, locating nests of flushed waterfowl, and following protocols to determine nest age and fate. Nests are marked (GPS and with visual markers) and re-visited to determine nest fate. Other duties may include: conducting waterfowl breeding pair and brood surveys, assessing vegetation characteristics, identifying predators (tracks and scat) at study sites, entering data, and maintaining and repairing equipment. QUALIFICATIONS: Experience conducting waterfowl nest searches (preferred but not necessary), strong bird ID skills (waterfowl of Midwest), advanced coursework or degree in biology, ecology, or related field, strong interest in conservation biology and/or ornithology. Also prefer good driving record, ability to work well with others, attention to detail and ability to follow protocols, and willingness to work in sometimes challenging field conditions (hot, humid, buggy, rainy, long hours, early mornings etc). COMPENSATION: Field housing will be provided along with a stipend of $1,600 per month. Position will be based in Morris, MN. Work will be conducted cooperatively with the University of MN, Delta Waterfowl Foundation, and the USFWS Morris Wetland Management District. Saskatchewan Association for Firearm Education (SAFE) is a non-profit organization responsible for the management and program delivery of the provincial firearm safety and hunter education program. In addition, SAFE works to protect the hunting heritage in Saskatchewan through education and communications. Currently, SAFE requires a highly self motivated and dynamic individual as an Executive Director The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the operation of SAFE. The successful candidate will have strong management skills, have the ability to lead, and coordinate all the fiscal, operational and human resources requirements for the organization based on policies and guidelines set by a volunteer board of directors. The successful candidate will liaise with community, instructors, business and government partners on a regional, provincial and national scope. Applicants must possess the following qualifications: Five to seven years of experience in administration and management of programs, preferably in education, communications or marketing settings.
