Drake Whistle

Question:

When if at all is the mallard drake whistle effective?

-Donnie Taylor

Answer:

Donnie,

Mallard DrakeIn my experiences a drake whistle is an exceptionally important tool for all hunters at various times of the year. I have seen flocks that would not respond to traditional calling ball right up and come in when hearing the drake call.  I would suggest that when hunting with other’s, that one in the group is assigned to the drake call to add some diversity and beef up the calling.  In addition, many mallard drake calls will do a serviceable job of mimicking the whistle of pintail and widgeon and the peeps pf teal which will add more realism to your calling presentation.

Good hunting!
