Calling Divers Question: Is there a need to call to divers? I have seen, and bought a diver call in the past, but am unsure how to use it, or if it is working. Thanks, Chad Haabala Answer: Chad,
The right point and right spread will do far more to ensure a productive diver hunt than calling. With that being said, I have seen diver calls be very effective. Take some time and listen to the variety of purrs and barks made by diving ducks and try to replicate them when hunting. Most divers will respond to purring (BRRRR, BRRRR) into a double reed mallard call. I typically call at all flocks, but it seems especially productive when birds “downwind” you while surveying the spread. A couple of purrs and barks may just get those birds to circle back and decoy offering the best shot. I hope this helps! Good hunting!
